Object - forming of forest on watersheds of rivers of the middle flow of Siversky Donets; Aim - reveal the peculiarities of forest forming on watersheds of rivers of the middle flow of Siversky Donets and to evaluate their optimal water protective forest coverage; methods - comparative ecology, silviculture, forest ecology, forest and soil science; novelty - the first time for watersheds of rivers of the middle flow of Siversky Donets peculiarities of forest spread and forming were determined, schemes of their allocation were developped; components of water balance (precipitation, evaporation, superficial and ground flow) at different forest coverage and optimal water protective forest coverage was evaluated; data on typological and biological diversity of forests, their productivity, peculiarities of growth and structure were obtained; tables and models of productivity were developed for modal artificial and natural oak stands; differences in dynamics of productivity were determined for stands of different watersheds; use of forest frowth potential by natural forest stands was evaluated in the most distributed forest types; results - peculiarities of forest spread and forming on watersheds; optoval water protective forest coverage of watersheds; tables and models of productivity for artificial and natural oak stands; branch - forestry.
