Essay

The object of the research – "intellectual" women’s magazines of the Russian empire of a beginning of ХХ century, in particular, "Women’s Herald" (SPb., 1904-1917) and " Women’s Union" (SPb., 1907-1909). The dissertation purpose – definition of a place of the Russian "Intellectual" women’s magazines of a beginning of ХХ century in system of women’s journal periodicals and analysis of them discourse in a subject field of an intellectual history. The methods: historical-tupological, historical-genetic, historical-comparative, synchronous, diachronous. Scientific novelty: the dissertation explores a range of women's magazines in the Russian Empire from the 18th to early 20th century, determines the conditions for appearance and development of the women's printed media, and studies all the main stages of its role in the socio-cultural scene of the time; the main typological and structural characteristics of women's magazines are specified. The focus is on the "intellectual" women's magazines of the early 20th century, " Women's Herald" and "Women's Union", which were the platform for shaping feminist ideology; a definition is given to the way femi-nists of the time understood the notion of "women's issues" which encompassed a wide variety of moral, ethical, socio-economic and political problems, and its connection to the notions "women's movement", "feminism", "suffragism", "the new woman"; it is claimed that the idea of equal rights for women in all the spheres of life: family, sexual rela-tionships, education, labour market, politics, was established as the basic idea for shaping the discourse of the "intellectual" women's magazines. Practical value of research: the results of research can be used in special works on a history of women’s movement in the Russian empire and history of journalism in Russia; for preparation of lecture and special courses, devoted to problems of a history of Russia of ХІХ - a beginning ХХ centuries, study of sources, intel-lectual and gender history. Sphere of use: higher educational institutions.
