Essay

The thesis provides complex revealing of regularities in migration of 137Cs and 90Sr in a trophic chain "soil - plant - animal - human being" in radio-contaminated agricultural landscapes of agricultural enterprises and household plots in the Central part of Ukraine's forest-steppe zone in the remote period after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. There has been established the radioecological condition of soils in agricultural lands and household plots, with estimated accumulation of 137Cs and 90Sr in crop and livestock products. The thesis defines the transition ratios of 137Cs and 90Sr in potatoes and other vegetable products grown in household plots by rural dwellers of the Central forest-Steppe. There have been calculated the exposure doses of rural population living in the areas of guaranteed voluntary resettlement and enhanced radiological control. The thesis establishes the role of cattle's dung in migration of 137Cs and 90Sr in radio-contaminated agricultural landscapes and its impact on the level of soil contamination. The cattle's dung obtained on the radio-contaminated territories facilitates migration and redistribution of radionuclides 137Cs and 90Sr in agricultural landscapes, being a source of soil secondary pollution.
