Vakhonieiev V. Cimmerian Bosporus in VIth century B C: Greek Colonization of the Area

The thesis deals with the process of Greek colonization of the Cimmerian Bosporus region (Kerch Strait) during the VIth cent. B C. The historiography of the problem and its stages were analyzed. The study of all available narrative, archaeological, epigraphic, numismatic sources allowed reconstructing the course process, its periodization. Thesis studies the main points related to the formation of new city-state's organisms: architecture, house-building, ethnic composition. The progress of the colonization process was shown, its cause and nature were identified. The thesis distinguishes the process of urban development of policies and the surrounding rural districts, the main industries were showed in research. Based on the analysis of all complex sources were formed the main stages of the development: the preliminary stage before the beginning of VIth cent. B C (familiarization with the region, establishment of Taganrog settlement), 580-560-s B C (the first "mass" wave, the foundation of the most of apoykias), 540-s B C and the last quarter of VIth - beginning of Vth cent. B C (mass rural development, the emergence of a new epoykie's wave). The research also focused on ethno-political and demographic situation before and during colonization, highlighted the historical situation in the Ionian policies, metropolitans of Bosporus settlements. The dissertation also analyzed and presented Paleoeconomic area of Cimmerian Bosporus.
