Essay

The diagnosis of pits parameter on the surface of metals, in particular, the development of methods to improve the quality of metallographic images by removing non-informative components that are present on the surface in the form of regular and irregular artifacts, which improves the accuracy of the statistical analysis of 20 - 40 % are proposed. A new, more advanced, pits classification was developed. The new method for diagnosis of partially closed pits are developed. The affect of pitting parameters on the strength of materials was investigated, witch shows the correlation of pits percentage on the surface, their average depth and the mechanical properties of corroded samples. This results in the criterion for determining the acceptable localized corrosion damage of metal.
