Essay

The object of study - geographical cultures of forest beech in Lviv Roztochya. The goal - to identify forest and ecological characteristics of forest beech tree growth of different geographical origin in Lviv Roztochya; to identify the most promising ecotypes for the gene bank enrichment and preservation and creation high - yielding and biologically sustainable beech stands in the investigated area. Research methods: forest and inventory, forest and ecological, morphological and anatomical, spectrophotometric, mathematical and statistical. Scientific innovation: for the first time in Ukraine a significant association of the number of trees damaged by the early autumn frosts and the latitude of their origin has been revealed. According to the level of the late spring and the early autumn frosts resistance, ecotypes are divided into four groups; a close relationship of forest beech ecotypes height current increment changes and solar and geomagnetic activity indices has been determined; a group of seven ecotypes in which the height current increment is largely determined by solar and geomagnetic activity has been extracted; according to the level of insects and fungal necrosis ecotypes damage it has been determined three groups of their resistance; it has been found out that ecotypes preservation is not related to the geographical and physical characteristics of places of origin, but it is closely correlated with the abiotic and biotic factors. Extended and updated: data on morphometric and phenological peculiarities of forest beech apical buds and assimilation apparatus growth; methods of calculation of the forest beech tree crown amount in the young age and assessment of the impact of individual climatic parameters for phenophases passing; information on forest beech ecotypes growth relationship with geographical parameters. Practical value: forest beech ecotypes of improved energy growth and vitality are recommended to be introduced into practice. The data can be used to refine the forest beech seed zoning network. Due to climate change and cycles of mass reproduction of weevils special attention should be paid to the resistant forest beech ecotypes. The obtained data on the relationship of solar activity and the rate of tree growth are fundamental for monitoring and prediction of changes in ecosystems with forest beech assistance.
