Essay

The results of a comprehensive study of the structural, transport and magnetic properties of new compounds of the RE-M-X (M=Pd, Pt, Au; X=B, Sb) systems have been presented. The relationships between the behavior of electrical resistivity, magnetic properties, specific heat capacity and effective valence of the rare-earth ion for compounds with strong electron correlations have been established. The superconductivity of the second order has been identified, investigated and explained in terms of the Ginzburg-Landau theory in the new compound LaPt2 + xSb2-y. The first order phase transition at T?80 K has been observed for a new compound CePt5Sb; the structure of low-temperature modification has been established from neutron powder diffraction data.
