The thesis explores the peculiarities of the intertexual context of Ukrainian Nativity Play drama as a general principle of the traditional type of culture. Theoretical aspects of the intertextual field of the Nativity Play text are studied with the regard to the literature and and folklore study contribution of the most prominent Ukrainian and European s Nativity Play cholars and the defining thematic and figurative art and semantic characteristics of its ethnic and cultural expression are defined. The utmost validity of the results of the Ukrainian Nativity Play drama intertexual field study was achieved thanks to the research of the intertext theory from the point of the state of its development. The methods of the intertextual phenomenon study in the folklore spectacular culture are based on three aspects: ideological, semiotic and communicative ones. The typological differentiation of intertextuality made possible the actualization of the intertextual aspect system analysis in spectacular gameplay folklore works. Special attention is paid to the dominating contextual form of intertextuality in Ukrainian folk Nativity Play, i.e. the Bible, the motives, the plot and the images of Holy Scripture. Thanks to a wide range of the comparative analysis of context-shaped and artistic performances semantic identity of the Nativity Play performances of the Polish shopka, Belorus batleyka, Russian folk puppet theatre it is found that the Slavic Nativity Play drama is a special system on the one hand uniting both the Christian culture texts and the Pagan culture ones and on the other one it reproduces the stereotypical image of the world which not only reflects reality, the mentality and customs of peoples, not only has the effect of reality because it imitates this reality, but because the themes, folklore pieces, language that emulate the previously established forms of cultural experience are employed in it.
