This thesis is devoted to the complex study of the phenomenon of “euroscepticism” in the process of European integration during the second half of XX – beginning of XXI centuries. On the basis of the analysis of published sources and literature it was studied the nature, historical background, geography, the reasons for the emergence and spread of “euroscepticism” within the EEC/EU. It is determined the evolution of the “euroscepticism” and highlighted its main stages: 1951–1960, 1961–1988, 1989–1997, 1998–2010. It is proved that the place of origin and spread of “euroscepticism” is Great Britain with its unique geographical location, different political structure, economy and cultural heritage. The policy of M. Thatcher (1979–1990) and her speech in Bruges on September 20, 1988, became a turning-point in the development of the British opposition to the EEC and crystallization of “euroscepticism” which led to the final fixing of “euroscepticism” in the national consciousness of the public and scientific circles.
