Essay

The thesis is devoted to the complex research of the political career and views of J. Morley, the eminent British thinker and statesman. J. Morley’s life and activity were closely related to the Liberal party of Great Britain. He was a journalist promoting liberal ideas through the press, the Liberal historian and philosopher, the Secretary of State for Ireland and Home Ruler, strictly opposed wars and aggressive foreign policy. Unsufficiently explored aspects of his biography and heritage are being examined, such as the problem of the personal growing of J. Morley. The work presents the investigation of the political and personal portrait of J. Morley in the common course of the British Mid- and Late Victorian history. J. Morley’s political image and lines of action are studied according to his views, showed in the historical works of the statesman. Such are, in particular, the peace foreign policy which afterwards led J. Morley to take up a decisive stand against the British imperialism and militarism in the course of the line of the liberal party; the policy of non-intervention and other J. Morley’s strong Liberal views.
