Essay

The thesis is dedicated to improving cavitation-erosion durability of equipment's component made of structural steels and cast irons through their replacement by polymers and polymer coatings. Tests showed that the cavitation wear resistance of thermoplastics is much higher than the one of thermosets. Studies have shown that amongst thermoplastic, polypropylene and PTFE and their shock-resistant clones exhibited the highest degree of cavitation-resistance. The results are explained on the basis of the physico-chemical mechanics of cavitation-erosion wear resistance of polymers.
