Essay

New regional typifications of debris flows (according to the power supply of their solid phase) and basins (according to the morphological features of their structure) were developed for the Carpathian folded region (the Basin of Tysa River). They are based on the established redistribution of debris flow formation factors. The classifications have been developed, also it was identified that debris flows processes depend on combinations of factors that cause them. The typification of debris flow bodies (sediments of debris origin) was carried out according to the morphogenetic features and formation character. The formation dependence of different debris flow bodies on the flow order was determined. There were determined two types of debris flow hazards that arise in the Carpathians: dynamic effect and accumulation of debris flow sediments in river valleys and river beds. The numerical modeling of the dynamic debris flow impact on engineering structures within the basins of Mokrianka and Burustianka rivers as well as definition of power indexes were conducted for the first time. Also a comprehensive quantitative and qualitative evaluation was carried out respecting the debris flow hazard of different order tributaries of these rivers. Recommendations concerning the debris flow protection in accordance with the selected types of debris flows and basins were specified.
