Matskevich D. Renewal of rheological characteristics inherent in lubricating materials applied in ship's medium-speed engines

The dissertation is concerned with working out the solution of an important theoretical and practical problem - conservation of power resources in ship's medium speed engines on account of renewal of rheological characteristics possessed by ship engines' lubricating oils in the boundary lubricating layers while the engine and its lubricating system are in direct operation. We have developed the method of renewal of rheological characteristics realizing the phenomenon of oriented ordering in the molecules of the boundary lubricating layer, which ensures their normal arrangement in relation to the surface of the crank gear bearing shell and is based on scientifically substantiated proposition stating that rheological characteristics of the ship engines' oils in the boundary lubricating layer are tied with its liquid-crystal properties and, as a result, may be restored at the cost of these latter.
