The theoretic, methodological principles and practical recommendations for project planning and strategic planning of regional development are developed in this thesis; logic and conceptual apparatus of the strategic planning of regional development is specified; the system of principles of the strategic planning of regional development is updated; the basic requirements for strategic planning at the regional level are identified; the classification of regional projects is made; a holistic analysis of the social and economic condition of the population of Cherkasy region is carried out; the estimation of the projects and programs is done; the main shortcomings of the modern practice of strategic planning of regional social and economic development are identified and the priority directions of adaptation of foreign experience for its improvement are defined.
