Essay

It has been theoretically predicted that the decrease of vacancy mean free path length between K-sinks should suppress the voiding during interdiffusion, increase the mean radius and total void volume at the interface during reactive diffusion. It should also slow down the spinodal decomposition at the early stage of lamellar structure formation and accelerate decomposition at the stage of concentration spatial separation on the stabilized structure (if the vacancy mean free path length becomes less than the period of lamellar structure). Generation of point defects in the Korbel-Bochniak version of severe plastic deformation may lead to formation of distinct low-viscosity zone. Study of reactive diffusion by means of new atomistic model has led to phase diagrams of reaction regimes including suppression/growth criteria for nucleation on concentration gradient.
