Essay

The object of the research - planting of exotic species of Abies and their cultivars, received from seeds and by the hetero vegetative way in the Western region of Ukraine. The purpose of the research - to identify the main centres of growth of exotic species of the genus Abies in the Western region of Ukraine; evaluation of their capacity and determination of specifics of seed hetero vegetative reproduction. Research Methods - phonological, laboratory, silvicultural, statistics. Scientific novelty - it was studied and analysed the current state of 12 plantations of exotic species of the genus Abies in the Western region of Ukraine. It was established that among exotic species of fir the most common are A. concolor, A. holophylla, A. nordmanniana; During the research there were determined phenological characteristics of individual species of fir within conditions of introduction (passing of phenological phases depends on the origin); It was documented the seed bearing of A. grandis trees and it was identified tentative seed potential of the species; It was found that A. holophylla, A. nordmanniana, A. cilicica themselves are naturalised species in the Western region of Ukraine. The practical significance. The results of the research on the spread of introduced species of fir in the Western region of Ukraine demonstrated that the perspective use of species of the genus Abies. The defined seed potential of investigated species allows to organise a planned systematic harvesting of seed material and to make a massive cultivation of plant material. There were defined the optimal grafting methods that ensure high rates of growth and survival rate for the introduced species of fir in the research. Also there were elaborated the basic directions of use of exotic species of fir, which will provide a significant expansion of the species' composition of garden and park facilities. Area of application: forestry.
