The object of the research is the Nature Reserve Fund of the Transcarpathian region. The purpose is to study the process of creation and formation of the Nature Reserve Fund of the Transcarpathian region and the analysis of scientifically based and practically realized ways of ensuring systematic functioning of its objects and areas which are mostly represented by forest ecosystems. The research methods are forest ecology, forest taxation, forest typology, comparative ecology and also methods of classification, comparison and generalization combined with analysis and synthesis. Scientific novelty. Theoretical and methodological foundations of assessment and establishment of the accordance of land referring to the Nature Reserve Fund by their environmental quality are developed considering their economic and social needs. The approaches to the reservation of the protected areas through the application of specific ( quantative ) rather than general ( descriptive ) characteristics and the indicators of land areas in assigning them to the protected ones are improved. The practical significance. It is recommended to form the structure of Nature Reserve System using the ecological, economic and social basic criteria for the selection of protected areas which are developed on the principles of sustainable development. It is proposed to strengthen the systemic action of the current Nature Reserve System to 83 % by implementing seven developed connecting ecological corridors. The area of application. Forestry.
