The sources and the number of members of the Islamic Ummah, the socio-economic situation of French Muslims, the institutionalization of Islam, the processes that occur in the environment of Muslim religious leaders and the role of Muslims in the political life of France were analyzed. The new Muslim "symbols" of the Fifth Republic, the works of the French popular literature and cinema for reflection of the Islamic factor, the social attitudes regarding French Muslims were examined.
