Essay

In this thesis the theoretical study of the conductivity of tunnel point contacts under the influence of various factors is presented. Such factors in particular include the presence of single defects at the surface as well as in the bulk of a sample, the influence of individual characteristics of the electron energy spectrum of conductors comprising the contact, the voltage bias applied to the contact, the magnitude of the external magnetic field, and the sample geometry. A rigorous mathematical procedure was developed for the recovery of the Fermi contours on the basis of experimental tunnel images. An oscillatory “saw-tooth” dependence of the conductance at the surface of a size-quantized film sample as a function of applied bias is predicted.
