Tarasiuta K. Catholic Church in Spain in times of the War of Independence (1808-1814)

The thesis is dedicated to the complex research of the Catholic Church's participation in the French-Spanish War of 1808-1814. Main traits of the religious policy of Napoleon and Joseph Bonaparte in Spain as well as reasons and forms of participation of the Spanish clergy in the struggle for national liberation against Napoleonic France are covered, basing on the analysis of scientific works and wide range of sources. The thesis gives special attention to such barely studied by Ukrainian scientists problems as the attitude of the Spanish clergy towards events of 1808-1814, its relationships with soldiers of foreign armies, the influence of war on the material state of the Church and on religious life of the population of Spain.
