The thesis presents an integrated structural-cognitive approach to the research of the modern English softonym formation. Softonyms are declared as proper names of the modern English language that denote computer programmes. English softonyms form a separate onomastic group of trademarks names that has its own structure, distinctive features and ways of formation. The data obtained proves that the most common structural classes of English softonyms are word combinations formed after word-building patterns N + N ? N and Adj + N ? N. The conceptual metaphors in onomastic group of softonyms are singled out and analyzed.
