Brovkina O. Strategies of the English Family Discourse in the situations of Frank Communication, Consolation, Misunderstanding

Underpinned with the postulates of the pragma-discourse approach, this thesis analyses a modern English family discourse in the situations of frank communication, consolation, and misunderstanding. The subject of the research is structural-semantical and pragma-discourse features of impact's realization in the situations of frank communication, consolation, and misunderstanding in accordance with addresser-addressee configuration and symmetric / asymmetric types of interaction in the family discourse. The dissertation's purpose is to establish strategies and tactics of the impact and means of their realization in the mentioned situations according to the configuration "HUSBAND-WIFE", "PARENTS-CHILDREN" and types of symmetric / asymmetric interaction. General scientific, structural-semantical, pragma-semantical, discourse and quantitative methods provide the framework for the research. Communicative features of the situations of frank communication, consolation, and misunderstanding in the English family discourse are defined. Structural-semantical and communicative-pragmatic peculiarities of the impact's realization in the mentioned situations in accordance with configuration "HUSBAND-WIFE", "PARENTS-CHILDREN" and symmetric / asymmetric types of interaction are brought to light. The thesis' conclusions make a contribution to the discourse theory and communication theory; its materials may be used in the courses of theoretical English grammar, English lexicology, communication theory, discourse theory, speech impact theory.
