Essay

The thesis is dedicated to experimental studies of structure states and their transformations in substrate-free clusters containing Ar, Kr, Xe, and N2. Using high-precision electron diffraction technique, which included diffraction of high-energy electrons, allowed us to find size, temperature, concentration composition, structure and substructure of clusters formed in a supersonic jet adiabatically expanding into a vacuum. In some of the experiments with mixed (heterogeneous) clusters formed in gas mixtures electron diffraction studies were supplemented with optic measurements in order to probe clusters by using their cathodoluminescence spectra.
