Essay

Underpinned by the postulates of cognitive linguistics combined with the methods of classic semantics the thesis considers the structure of fitness class discourse (i. e. its macro- and microthemes); studies its conceptual sphere and features its frame model. The attempted research resulted in the conclusion that English discourse of fitness classes is a variety of sport discourse, a special independent cognitive-communicative phenomenon, a relatively mild and flexible type of institutional communication, which possesses the features of person-oriented (everyday) discourse. Institutional parameters, values, intentions as well as the characteristics of the fitness classes determine communicative, cognitive and pragmatic properties of the discourse in question.
