Essay

Object: Bremsstrahlung and polarization bremsstrahlung (PBS) arising from collisions of electrons with rare-gas targets. Purpose: Finding the effect of the structure of surface and core layers of Xe clusters on the formation of PBS spectra. Methods: Emission spectroscopy of rare-gas beams in the ultra-soft X-ray range. Results: Cooperative effect contribution to the formation of PBS in clusters was found for the first time as Xe targets are changed from atomic to cluster ones. A special state of clusters was found in which the cluster core is crystalline while a surface layer remains disordered. Range of application: nanophysics, X-ray spectroscopy
