Essay

In this thesis for the first time in Ukrainian historical science an attempt to reproduce integrally the structure of the Ottoman Empire's armed forces, reconstruct internal organization of foot, horse, special and support units of kapykulu corps, and also specifics of janissaries' garrison-security service in the capital, other cities and fortresses is made. This work examines the issues concerning the social base of reforms, internal and external situation of the Ottoman Empire at the end of XVIII - beginning of XIX centuries. Particular attention is paid to problems of completing of the Ottoman army regular troops, and especially janissary corps. In research the causes of the decline of the Ottomans traditional feudal military model are identified. The Ottoman Empire could not keep numerous middle aged army which did not perform its right duties with protection of territory wholeness. An important aspect of the thesis is to analyze main factors that caused the feasibility of janissary corps elimination and restructuring of the Ottoman Empire armed forces.
