Essay

The object of the research – formation and activity of Russian diplomatic service in Japan in 1855 – 1904. The dissertation purpose: complex characteristics of formation and activity of Russian diplomatic service in Japan in 1855 – 1904. The methods: historical-genetic, synchronous, diachronous. Scientific novelty: the dissertation is the first work that is devoted to complex investigation of formation and activity of Russian diplomatic service in Japan in 1855 – 1904; the documentary base of Russian consulates and legation in Japan activity is analyzed in the research; it is revealed that some articles of Russo-Japanese treaties were only the expression of intents; real but not declared aims of Russian Empire during the diplomatic relations establishment are determined; the development of the Russian diplomatic representatives system in Japan is traced; the dates of Russian consulates opening and the information about their members are specified; characteristics of Russian diplomatic representative offices in Japan are detected; the factors that had an influence on an appointment a person to the diplomatic post in Russian representative offices in Japan are determined; the role of diplomats’ personalities in the development of political, economic and cultural intergovernmental relations is showed; the evolution of Russian foreign policy Far-Eastern vector that was realized by tsarist diplomats in Japan is traced; it is placed high emphasis on the investigation of Russian ministers in Tokyo role at the negotiations that took place before Russo-Japanese War. Practical value of research: materials of research can be used in the preparation of scientific works, textbooks , programs and special courses on world history, diplomacy and international relations; dissertation may be of interest to Ukrainian diplomats, working on the development of trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural-humanitarian cooperation of our country with the Asia-Pacific region, particularly Japan. Sphere of use: higher educational institutions, diplomatic service.
