Essay

This thesis is dedicated to the issues of raising the cure rate among patients with tibia fractures by applying an external fixation device of original design. A universal device for transosseous osteosynthesis has been developed and put into practice, enabling to optimize organometricity of the external structure owing to its function of arranging the shape of supports close to the shape of segments, also to reduce its size and steel intensity, which in turn ensures more comfort during such a patient's treatment. As shown by the biomechanical research, when applying compression, bending and torsion efforts of displacing, the given universal device for transosseous osteosynthesis demonstrates higher rigidity of fixation of fragments in comparison with the Ilizarov device - thanks to more efficient geometry of the supports, making it possible to perform early functional loading of an injured limb. This study presents a comparative analysis of the cure rate of 80 patients with tibia fractures, treated by the method of transosseous osteosynthesis, using the devices of various designs. The clinical efficacy of this universal device was proven by shortening of consolidation periods, improving of the anatomical and functional results of treatment and reducing of the number of complications.
