Essay

The thesis deals with long-term studies on structural and fuctional characteristics of macrozoobenthos in the Desna River. Seasonal fluctuations of the bottom fauna abundance in the river’s lower reaches have been described. The effect of floods and the role of drifting in benthic communities’ development in different sections of the Desna basin have been pointed out. The reference classes of water quality for particular sections of the river basin have been identified.
