The paper is devoted to research of phytoplankton in the upper section of Kaniv water reservoir in lotic and lentic conditions. Seasonal dynamics and vertical distribution of algal species diversity, number and biomass have been studied. The effect of abnormal water temperatures upon phytoplankton qualitative and quantitative characteristics has been shown. The factors determining phytoplankton development at the present stage of Kaniv water reservoir existence have been revealed.
