Essay

The thesis presents results of a comprehensive research into the higher aquatic vegetation of the Siversky Donets river valley, its floristic and coenotic variety, dynamics and conservation. Modern methods of geobotanical data analysis have been employed to design a classification scheme of the higher aquatic vegetation, which incorporates 48 associations, 13 alliances, 8 orders and 5 classes. The research has established the leading factors of the syntaxons' territorial and ecological differentiation and has identifies the main directions and succession tendency of higher aquatic vegetation. Sozological assessment of higher aquatic vegetation has identified 48 species and 11 syntaxons requiring conservation at various levels.
