The thesis is devoted to study the effects of different stress factors on free radical-related processes and antioxidant response in seedlings of corn Zea mays L. Our data shows that salt stress increases content of thiols and the activity of catalase and guaiacolperoxidise in the leaves of maize seedlings after 48 h treatment. Sodium nitroprusside decreased activity of glutathione-S-transferase and glutathione reductase and content of protein carbonyls, TBA-reactive substances, which were increased under salinity treatment. Sodium nitroprusside treatment increases total antioxidant potential by increasing concentrations of water-soluble antioxidants in corn seedlings.
