Essay

The thesis is devoted to the studying of the status and role of women in public and political life of Great Britain from the last third of the XIX century to 1939. In the paper, on the basis of the sources and historiography analysis, the beginning and development of the suffrage movement as the first large-scale manifestation of public and political activity of British women has been comprehensively investigated. The complex of the socio-economic, political and ideological causes underlying the beginning of significant changes in the status of women is defined. The dynamics of changes in the status of women in the labor market, in private life, educational and political spheres during the study period is illuminated. In particular, women were granted access to all levels of education, started to expand the new types of employment in the labor market, have got the property rights in the marital sphere, etc. The attention is focused on the legislation empowering women in these areas.
