Essay

Thesis is dedicated to the research of socio-political development of noble families in Northeast Hungary in 1526-1657. It has been proved that royal Hungary managed to preserve its peculiar county-based administrative system, even after the split, which meant that the aristocratic class system continued to exist. In the XVI century, with the development of the class society, the distribution of state power began, with the State Assembly playing a major role in the process, as it was the only legislative authority elected by the nobility. A comparative analysis of the nobility of Northeast Hungary made it possible to „justify” the nobility as a performer of important political, socio-economic, cultural and religious functions.
