Essay

Dissertation is devoted to the study of different aspects of US naval policy in 1909-1922. The beginning of the XX century was the period full of quick changes in all spheres. One of the most rapid changes were held in Navy. That was a period when US became a prominent international player all over the world and naval policy was one of the key activities for achieving it. Based on wide source base, which includes official documents of US government institutions, international treaties, sources of personal origin, press and works of prominent scientists, devoted to the US naval and foreign policy. The author analyzed the changes in naval policy, key aspects of technical modernization of warships, international situation and its influence on naval plans. American government took all necessary activities to achieve main goal of having Navy "second to none". In the end of the 19th century, US Navy began a new page of its evolution. Government of the country started annual production of new battleships. The goal was to have one of the most powerful fleet in the world. When Great Britain constructed "Dreadnought" in 1906 it was the beginning of the new era in military shipbuilding that caused naval race.
