Mikhalyuk V. Diagnosis and surgical treatment of para- and intraventricular CSF cysts of the brain in pediatric age

The thesis is dedicated to the problem of diagnostics and surgical treatment of intracranial hypertension syndrome induced by excess amount of CSF in cranial cavity due to para- and intraventricular cerebrospinal fluid cysts, which do not have connection with normal CSF spaces, by using optimization of the application of modern imaging studies and surgical technologies. On the basis of the research, algorithm of examination and surgical treatment of patients was developed. The basic indications for surgical treatment of para- and intraventricular cerebrospinal fluid cysts are - syndrome of intracranial CSF hypertension, or signs of compression, mass effect of the cysts on brain structure. A technique of microsurgical and endoscopic procedures has been improved. Indications for intracranial and extracranial drainage of cerebrospinal fluid were determined. Also, the basic criteria of effectiveness of surgical treatment, and factors affecting the long-term prognosis of para- and intraventricular cysts in children were established.
