Essay

In my paper, I analyzed the basic features of assimilation processes among the Jewish population of Galicia (second half of XIX - early XX century.). I supposed that Jewish assimilation has been motivated by socio-economic situation. Jews in Galicia adopted cultural traits of environment, but this process was selective and conservative. They also tried to modernize themselves through combining political loyalty to the Austrian government, German and Polish cultural orientation and some changes in the Jewish religious tradition.
