Essay

The object of the study - Norway spruce with resonance wood properties in the site conditions of the northeastern megaslope of Ukrainian Carpathians. The goal - to identify the influence of the forestry and environmental conditions on the formation of the resonance wood of Norway spruce growing in the Ukrainian Carpathians and to develop methods diagnosing the physical and acoustic wood characteristics. Research methods. Forest-taxation, wood science and statistics. Scientific novelty - in the first time it was in Ukraine estimated that the most favorable forest types of the growth of Norway spruce with the resonance wood is wet beech-fir subspruce (C3-beech-fir-spruce) at altitude of 800-1000 m asl; it was set that tree-ring width of Norway spruce varies from 0.5 mm to 6.0 mm; the number of growth rings in 1 cm is in the range from 3 pieces?cm-1 to 35.5 pieces ? cm-1; the percentage of the late wood in annual rings varies from 5.4 to 51.9% due to the high altitude environmental conditions; the formation features of the stem wood density of Norway spruce depend on altitude changes and forest types, in particular the biggest value of wood density was equal 413 kg?m-3 and it was characterized for the wet fir-subspruce forest types. Practical meaning. For the first time it was obtained the scientific results of the formation features of resonance wood of Norway spruce growing in the Ukrainian Carpathians. Mathematical relationship between indicators of the wood macrostructure, wood density, wood anisotropy and resonance properties of wood were established. Selection of Norway spruce trees with resonance wood was recommended for the ecological altitude zones of 801-1000 m asl in terms of wood macrostructure and physical properties of wood. For the practical use it was recommended the parametric characterization of juvenile wood, three ecological altitude zones in term of wood quality characteristics of Norway spruce, regression models diagnosing the high-value wood in term of the altitude performance, wood macrostructure, wood density, wood anisotropy and analytical models diagnosing resonance wood of Norway spruce. The area of the use: forestry and woodworking industry.
