Essay

The thesis deals with the investigation of characteristics of prooxidant-antioxidant system of lungs by means of experimental modeling of redundancy and deficit of melatonin in animal organisms. It is revealed that melatonin deficit in rat organisms as a result of reduction of epiphysis functional activity (maintenance of animals under the exposure of continuous lighting) causes increase in formation of reactive oxygen species, products of peroxidation processes, and is attended by decrease of antioxidant protection, which results in the development of oxidative stress. Melatonin, under the epiphysis hyperfunction, reveals prooxidant properties, activating peroxidation processes in lung tissue. Under inflammation, 10-day lighting deprivation and exogenous melatonin redress prooxidant-antioxidant balance in lung tissue.
