Essay

The dissertation is devoted to research of the commercialization of space activities in the United States presidential administrations policy in 1989 - 2012. Based on a broad base of sources, the leading role of the executive branch of power in the process of commercialization of US space activities has been defined. The author argues that the problem of definition the essence of the concept "commercialization of space" was interpreted differently among researchers in connection with the lack of a clear definition of this term in official American documents concerning space policy. It has formed a vision of the essence and content of the concept of "commercialization of space activities", which is understood in the work as the goal-oriented policy of the American state to create a market for commercially available goods and services in the space industry, in which the initiative and risks of entrepreneurial activity are laid on private players.
