The theoretical and applied principles of estimation and analysis of economic development of Ukrainian regions have been developed in the dissertation. A definition of "region" and a meaning of "economic development of a region" have been clarified, basic definitions of a category "region" in the context of economic development have been systematized. A typology of regions has been developed and four types of regions have been identified on the basis of "the level of economic development" that will allow a comparison between regions by a criterion of a level of economic development. The methodology of estimation and analysis of economic development of regions has been developed, based on the methods of synthesis and gradual concretization. Its application will improve the generalized methodology of formation of the policy of economic development of the regions. The typology of factors of development of regions has been developed, four groups of factors have been distinguished by the scientist. A concept of convergent economic development of the regions of Ukraine has been improved on the basis of universality. Specification of separate stages of coherent regional development has been made according to the development level of a particular region and expected result as a consequence of its convergent development. A generalized methodology of formation of the policy of economic development of the regions has been improved, which, unlike the others, clearly defined a place of authoring methodology of estimation and analysis of regional economic development.
