Essay

Object: Japan-Ukraine relations of 1991-2016 in the context of historical development of Japan's foreign policy and general trends in the international arena. Objective: to reveal the content, character and specifics of development of Japan-Ukraine relations in 1991-2016 in the context of Japan's foreign policy. Methods: induction, deduction, analysis, synthesis, historical-genetic, historical-comparative, problem-chronological, statistical, forecasting, content analysis, case study, interviews, political linguistics. The thesis researches main milestones, directions and conceptual foundations of the foreign policy course of Japan in the second half of the XX - the beginning of the XXI century as well as its strategy in the post-Soviet area after the end of the Cold War. The study proposes periodization of the Japan-Ukraine foreign policy relations in 1991-2016 and introduces Japanese researchers' opinion on political events in Ukraine. It also contains analysis of main trends in Japan-Ukraine trade and investment cooperation and Japan's assistance to Ukraine viewed as specific form of bilateral economic cooperation. In addition, it examines main directions of cultural-humanitarian and scientific-technical cooperation as well as the role of "public diplomacy" in the rapprochement of the Japanese and Ukrainian people.
