In dissertation on the basis of various types of sources and domestic and foreign historiography, a comprehensive study of the military-political history of the First Bulgarian Empire in IX - the first quarter of the X-th century was carried out. The geopolitical changes that were associated with the expansion of the Danube Bulgarians to the northern, western and southern territories north of the Danube, the Black Sea and the Dnieper region were analyzed. The specifics of the formation, assembly and supply of the Bulgarian troops were characterized, the hierarchical structure and the formation of the military-administrative system of the Bulgarian state were analyzed. Attention also focuses on the characterization of the Bulgarian armaments, the tactics and strategy of the Bulgarian rulers. The dissertation proved that the struggle for the Slavic population, which was the most numerous, became the key to the military policy of the Bulgarians.
