This dissertation is focused on to the modeling of the nutrients emission (nitrogen and phosphorus compounds) from the water catchments of small rivers of the forest zone in Ukraine by SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool). A process-based distributed watershed model has been firstly used in Ukraine. This modeling approach is adapted to the implementation within Ukrainian conditions. After the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU has been signed, the integrated approach to water management based on the basin principle is applied. In particular, according to the new legislation requirements, an estimation and forecast of nutrients emission in the water bodies, determination of areas vulnerable to nitrate contamination, implementation of ways to reduce eutrophication should be conducted, including development and initiation of the best management practices in agriculture. This regulation requires the new qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods which are currently lacking.
