Essay

The thesis is devoted to the administrative and economic activity of General I. Khorvat in New Serbia in the second half of the 18th century. It comprehensively reveals military-administrative and socio-economic aspects of General’s activity in this region. The contribution of I. Khorvat to the development of the New Serbia was examined in a new way on the basis of engaged unpublished documents. The state of scientific development of this issue and the source base were analyzed in the thesis. The specialty of the researching of this topic in historiography is its review by majority of Ukrainian and foreign researchers in the general context of the history of colonization of Ukrainian steppe terrains by foreign colonists in the 18th century. The source base of this problem consists of archival and published documents, memoirs and other materials. The study uses documents from the funds of the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Kyiv, the Manuscript Institute of Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, the State Archives of Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa regions, the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts and other institutions.
