In the dissertation, on the basis of analysis of various sources and scientific literature, the process of formation of the ideological basis of US foreign policy, which included the concept of "choice of destiny", social Darwinian philosophy and Anglo-Saxonism as its branch, the concept of "naval force", "doctrine Washington", "Monroe's Doctrine ", along with its various variations, as well as" Hey's doctrine". The paper analyzes the perception of these concepts and doctrines by representatives of the then American society. The perception of the United States by other states, in the first place - Europe is considered.
