Andrusyshyn T. Ecological assessment of the Zbruch River in terms of heavy metals accumulation under flow control and water shortage

The thesis is devoted to the ecological assessment of the Zbruch River in terms of heavy metals accumulation under flow control and water shortage. Heavy metals loading of abiotic and biotic ecosystem components of the Zbruch River was conducted for the first time. It was found out that low water level in the river is caused by climate changes and anthropogenic impact can the environment. In terms of the systematic characterization of the ecological situation in the Zbruch River over recent years, it is found that due to the anthropic loading, there are a deterioration of the water regime, the hydrochemical and ecotoxicological situation, the increase in pollution by heavy metals, a significant deterioration in the quality of water and the aquatic environment for the river ecosystem. The status of the river is assessed as "satisfactory", but with strong degradation processes. The integrated use of the river should also be aimed at the convergence between economic activity and environmental protection.
