Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the elucidation of the biochemical mechanisms of toxic effect of carbon nanotubes on the body under conditions of their joint action with classical toxicant tetrachloromethane. It was established that carbon nanotubes increase the intensity of oxidative and nitrooxidative stress caused by tetrachloromethane (the processes of lipid and protein oxidation are activated, the antioxidant system is inhibited, the NO-synthase activity and NOx content are increased), enhance the hepatotoxic effect of tetrachloromethane (AlAT, AsAT and alkaline phosphatase activities are increased), increase the negative effect of the toxicant on the immune system (the concentrations of TNF-?, IL-1?, immunoglobulins A, M and G are increased, the contents of IL-4 and IL-10 are decreased), enhance the ability of tetrachloromethane to increase the production of intracellular reactive oxygen species and content of necrotic and apoptotic changed neutrophils. Carbon nanotubes also increase the ability of tetrachloromethane to cause structural changes in liver tissues.
