The dissertation is devoted to the substantiation of theoretical and methodical principles and the development of practical recommendations for the formation of strategic directions of regional rural development. Based on the research, the place and role of rural development in the socio-economic growth of the region are grounded. It is expedient to consider this important function because of the important functions performed by rural areas, since the functioning of the latter as a complex polyfunctional object is considered in the interrelation between its components as a result of certain actions. The basic functions of rural areas include the production and economic activities - agricultural and forestry production, recreation and tourism activities.
