Essay

The dissertational work presents the theoretical and empirical research on the social-psychological factors influencing unemployed people’s readiness to change their professions and to retraining. The basic approaches to the “psychological readiness” concepts in the national and foreign psychological science are analyzed. The structure of psychological readiness consists of the following components: motivational, goal-oriented, cognitive-competent and emotional-volitional. The theoretical model of psychological readiness of the unemployed people to change their professions and to retraining and its socio-psychological factors are discussed. The typology of unemployed citizens was determined on the basis of the empirical research: socially successful; unmotivated; disoriented; professionally oriented; emotionally unstable; socially unsuccessful. This typology is based on the socio-psychological characteristics of the unemployed, respectively, the structure of unemployed people’s psychological readiness to change their professions and to be retrained that influence professional success. In order to increase unemployed people’s psychological readiness to change their professions and to be retrained, a program of social and psychological support for the unemployed was developed. The obtained results proved the program effectiveness, which was reflected in the increased indicators for each components of psychological readiness.
